Lexus GX550: Which Dr. KDSS Parts Fit and Which Do Not
By Dom Ruangnol
The GX550 is a big step for the GX line. It sits on a new platform shared with the Land Cruiser 250, and owners started lifting them almost as soon as they hit the road. Not surprisingly, I get a steady stream of messages from GX550 owners asking which of our parts will bolt on.
The short answer is that the list is short right now, and I would rather give you a clear yes and a clear no than a maybe. A fitment mistake costs you a return and costs me a customer. So this post sticks to what our live product pages actually say, part by part.
Does the GX550 run KDSS?
Not in the way our catalog means it. Most of what we make is built around the hydraulic KDSS found on the GX460, the fifth-generation 4Runner, and the Prado 150: cylinders at the front and rear sway bars, linked by hydraulic lines and controlled by valves. If you want a refresher on how that system works, our KDSS explainer covers it end to end.
None of our KDSS-specific parts list the GX550 as a fit. The GX550 platform is different enough underneath that parts designed around the older system should not be assumed to carry over, even when they look similar in photos. If your question is about the KDSS-specific side of the truck, the answer today is that we do not have a listed part for it.
That is a different question from whether the GX550 has the same problems as any other lifted truck. It does, and that is where the one part family that does fit comes in.
Which catalog parts fit it today?
Two products on our store state GX550 fitment on their own product pages. Both are the same part.
The B.O.T.C.K. track bar correction kit for the Land Cruiser 250 and GX550. When you lift a GX550, the rear track bar ends up steeper than designed and the axle starts moving sideways through its travel. The rear feels loose, the truck wanders, and the axle no longer sits centered under the body. The B.O.T.C.K. raises the axle-side pivot point so the bar returns to a flatter angle. It bolts on with no welding or cutting. You can see the details on the B.O.T.C.K. for the Land Cruiser 250 and GX550 product page.
It comes in two versions, picked by one measurement. Park on level ground, measure from the ground to the center of the frame-side track bar bolt, then to the center of the axle-side bolt, and subtract. A difference of 1.5 to 2.99 inches calls for the Shorty, or the bottom hole on the Standard bracket. A difference of 3 inches or more calls for the Standard, using the top hole. If more lift is in your plans, go Standard for the extra mounting room.
Torque the bolt at the OEM mounting location to 105 ft-lbs and the rest to 125 ft-lbs, with blue thread locker on all of them.
The blemished version of the same kit. Same part, minor cosmetic imperfections, $10 off. It comes in Standard and Shorty, in a smaller set of colors than the new kit.
That is the full list of GX550 fits today.
What should GX550 owners wait for?
Everything else. Here is how the rest of the catalog lines up for a GX550 right now.
- KDSS control harness and harness combo: not compatible. The KDSS Harness Combo page lists the Land Cruiser 250 as not compatible, and the GX550 shares that platform. The harness-only kit lists the GX460, the Prado 150, and the 4Runner with KDSS, with no GX550. Do not order either for a GX550.
- KDSS billet components and rear drop kits: listed for the GX460, the fifth-generation 4Runner, and the Prado 150 with KDSS. No GX550 listing. You can see what each one fits in the KDSS components collection.
- GX460 parts in general: the GX460 and GX550 are different platforms. A part that fits the GX460 does not fit the GX550 unless its own product page says so. If you also own a GX460, its parts are in the Lexus GX460 collection.
The rule I would give any GX550 owner is simple: if the product page does not name the GX550, treat it as not fitting. When new GX550 parts are ready, they will show up with the GX550 named right on the page. Until then, the correction kit is the part that helps a lifted GX550 drive the way it should.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does this fitment information come from?
From the live product pages on our store. Each product page lists the trucks it fits. If the GX550 is not named on the page, the part is not listed as a fit, no matter how similar it looks to a part that fits another truck.
Does the KDSS control harness work on the GX550?
No. The KDSS Harness Combo page lists the Land Cruiser 250 as not compatible, and the GX550 is on the same platform. The harness-only kit does not list the GX550 either, so do not order the harness for it.
How do I send a connector photo if I am not sure what my truck has?
Take a clear, well-lit photo of the connector straight on, with the pin side visible and the area around the clip in frame. Send it through the contact page on our site along with your year, model, and trim, and we will tell you what the photo shows before you order anything.
Does the GX460 correction kit fit the GX550?
No. They are different platforms and use different kits. The GX550 uses the Land Cruiser 250 and GX550 version.
Is the correction kit reversible?
Yes. It bolts to factory mounting points with no cutting or welding, so the truck can go back to stock.
