Sway Bars and KDSS: How They Work Together

On a normal truck the sway bars are simple. Two torsion bars, bolted to the frame, resisting body roll. On a KDSS truck they are part of a hydraulic circuit, and that changes which parts matter and which ones fail.

The connection most people miss

The front and rear bars are not independent. They are tied together through hydraulic cylinders, so what happens at one axle affects the other. Twist the chassis hard enough and pressure shifts between the circuits, letting both bars give up resistance at once.

That coupling is the whole design. It also means every connection point in the chain matters more than it would on a conventional setup. A soft bushing or a flexing clamp is not just slop in one corner. It is slop the hydraulic side has to work around.

Where the flex comes from

Three places, in rough order of how often we see them.

The sway bar clamps. Factory clamps are stamped and they spread under load. That movement takes the edge off how quickly the bar responds, and it gets worse as the bushings inside them wear.

The end links. These take the most direct load and they are a known wear point. A failing link shows up as lean, as a clunk over speed bumps, or as low pressure symptoms that get misdiagnosed as a hydraulic fault.

The bushings. Rubber compresses and it ages. On a truck that has been through a decade of heat cycles, the bushings are usually further gone than they look.

What billet parts change

Our front sway bar billet clamps and rear billet clamps are 6061 billet aluminum and anodized. Machined from solid, they do not spread the way a stamped clamp does, so the bar loads and unloads without the mount moving first.

The front KDSS billet link uses the same 6061 billet construction with delrin at the pivot. Removing the flex point removes the failure that causes it.

For bushings, the bushing bracket pairs a billet bracket with polyurethane, which holds its shape under load far longer than rubber.

Diagnosing lean the right way

Lean has more than one cause and they are easy to confuse.

Start with the links. Get the truck up and look for play, cracking or a torn boot. Failed OEM links are the most common single cause and the cheapest thing to rule out.

Then check clamps and bushings for movement under load. If a clamp shifts on the bar when the suspension is cycled, it is not doing its job.

Only then look at geometry. If the truck is lifted and the track bar sits at a steep angle, that is a separate problem with a separate fix, and no amount of sway bar hardware will correct it.

FAQ

Do billet clamps make the ride harsher?

They do not change spring or bar rate. What they change is how much the mount moves before the bar starts working. Most people describe the result as more immediate rather than stiffer.

Can I run billet clamps with a stock bar?

Yes. The clamps replace the factory mounting hardware and work with the factory bar.

Are front and rear clamps the same part?

No. They are listed separately because the mounting differs front to rear.

Will new clamps fix my lean?

Only if the lean is coming from clamp or bushing movement. If the truck is lifted, check track bar geometry first.
