Blemished KDSS Parts: What Blem Actually Means
People see a blemished part listed ten dollars under the regular one and immediately assume there is a catch. There is not much of one, but you deserve to know exactly what you are getting before you click buy. Here is what a blem actually is at my shop. I am Dom, and I am the one who decides which parts get graded that way.
What does blemished mean on a Dr. KDSS part?
A blemished part is B stock with minor cosmetic imperfections that do not affect fit, function, or performance. Same billet, same machining, same tolerances, same hardware in the box. What is different is usually a mark in the anodizing, a small finish flaw, or a cosmetic inconsistency that happened somewhere between the machine and the shelf.
It is the same part. It just did not photograph well enough for me to sell it at full price with a straight face.
How much do blemished parts save?
Ten dollars off the regular price on most items. Here is what that looks like across the lineup:
- B.O.T.C.K. correction kits: $210 blemished instead of $220. Available across the Gen 3 Tundra, Gen 4 Tacoma, Land Cruiser 200 and LX570, Land Cruiser 250 and GX550, and the 4Runner Gen 4 and 5 kit.
- B.O.T.C.K. for Gen 3 4Runner and Prado 90: $190 blemished instead of $200.
- Dr. KDSS Track Bar: $400 blemished instead of $430.
I am not going to oversell ten dollars. It is a real saving and it is not life changing. If the part you want is in stock as a blem and you do not care about a mark you will never see once it is installed, take it.
Will anyone be able to tell once it is installed?
Almost never, and that is the point. These parts live under your truck, covered in trail dust within a week. The imperfections that get something graded as a blem are the kind of thing you notice under shop lights while holding it in your hands, not the kind you spot at ride height on a dirty rig.
One of my clamp variants is literally listed with a note saying you might not even be able to tell why it is a blemish. That is not marketing, that is me being unable to make the case for full price on a part I could not find the flaw on quickly either.
Is a blemished part structurally different?
No. Same material, same CNC program, same dimensions, same strength. A blem is a cosmetic grade, not a structural one. If a part had a machining defect that affected fit or strength, it would not go in the blemished section, it would go in the scrap bin. I am not selling you a compromised bracket to save you ten dollars.
This matters because these parts hold your axle centered and keep your sway bar located. There is no version of my business where it makes sense to put a questionable part under someone's truck for a ten dollar discount and then deal with what happens next.
Why do blemished listings have no reviews?
Because they are separate product listings with their own product IDs, so they start from zero even though the part itself has been reviewed hundreds of times. If you are looking at a blem listing with no reviews next to a regular listing with a long review history, you are looking at the same physical part.
Check the reviews on the standard listing for the honest picture of how the part performs. The blem listing just has not accumulated its own yet.
Should I buy blemished or regular?
Buy blemished if it is in stock in the fitment and color you need. Buy regular if the blem section does not have your platform, or if you specifically want a color that is only offered at full price.
The one real limitation is selection. Blemished stock is whatever happened to come out with a cosmetic flaw, so I cannot guarantee your exact platform and color combination is sitting there. It is not a product line I can produce on demand. If it is there, take it. If not, the regular part is the same thing minus a mark.

Do blemished parts come with all the hardware?
Yes. Same box contents as the standard version, including all mounting hardware. Nothing is left out to hit the lower price.
Can I return a blemished part?
Same terms as anything else I sell. Contact me before returning so I can approve it and give you instructions. There is a 20 percent restocking fee with no exceptions, I cover the return shipping label, and the part must be unused and uninstalled in original condition. Buying a blem does not change any of that either direction.
Does free shipping apply to blemished parts?
Yes. All US orders ship free regardless of whether the part is standard or blemished. International orders calculate at checkout by weight, dimensions, and destination.
How do I know which blems are in stock?
If you can add it to the cart, it is in stock. The blemished collection shows current availability, and it changes as parts move. There is no waitlist for blems because I cannot predict what will come out with a cosmetic flaw.

Before you order any correction kit at full price, look at the blemished collection and see whether your platform is sitting there. Same part, ten dollars less, and the mark disappears under the truck.
